Q&A With Susie


Hi Susie, I do my cardio in the mornings, on an empty stomach. Should I be having something as opposed to nothing? Any particular supplement that may be beneficial?

This is an extremely common one and there are a couple of responses to it.
 
If you are exercising for just 30-40 minutes, at moderate intensity eg fast walking before breakfast, there is no issue with fasting and it may even support fat loss. If on the other hand you are training at high intensity, such as a Boot Camp session or running, and / or if your session goes for longer than 40 minutes, consuming a small amount of carbohydrate before your session is likely to support you in training at a higher intensity for longer, hence indirectly supporting fat loss.
 
Good options include a slice of toast with cheese or nut spread, a few spoons of yoghurt, a piece of fruit or a small cup of milk.
