We get this question a lot, so hopefully, we can help to provide some clarification.
If you receive medical treatment in a doctor’s surgery, hospital or emergency department and have not been admitted into hospital you’ll be classified as an outpatient.
Outpatient treatments (or services) can include but are not limited to:
- x-rays
- scans
- minor surgery
- chemotherapy
It's important to note that if you’re treated as an outpatient, health funds by law, are unable to pay a benefit. The good news is that most outpatient services are payable by Medicare so you should be able to claim a benefit through them.
