What If ... we covered the cost of your flu vaccination?

As we continue to ride the wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a heightened awareness of infectious diseases, especially when a form of immunisation is available.

Flu vaccinations offer greater immunisation against the flu while also supporting the wider community.

At HIF, we value choice and access, which is why we are covering the cost of an annual flu vaccination up to the value of $20 (1 per person, per calendar year) on selected Extras policies, which include Pharmacy.

Members can get a flu vaccination at any registered pharmacy in Australia. The service is not available through your GP.

You can simply claim the service through your pharmacy services benefit by submitting a completed claim form and associated paid receipts to us via email at claims@hif.com.au or through our HIF Mobile App with a copy of your paid receipt attached.

The Flu Vaccine - Do We Really Need It? What Science Says.

As described by Tammy George, warnings about the impending flu season are everywhere in autumn. Health experts worldwide, recommend the flu vaccine to keep us safe from the influenza virus and its potentially deadly health complications.

The flu vaccine works by stimulating your immune system to produce antibodies. Antibodies are proteins that attack germs, such as the flu virus. It can take up to two weeks for your body to build up antibodies after you have had the flu shot.

Each year the vaccine is developed after researching what strain of influenza is most likely to circulate in the upcoming season. They then grow the virus in eggs. The vaccine is most commonly given as an injection in the arm.
