You may be eligible for pre-existing medical condition cover on Comprehensive and Multi-Trip plans. For Domestic plans pre-existing medical condition cover only applies to Cancellation and Additional Expenses. Online claims process
If something happens while you are travelling, making a claim is simple with the insurer’s online claims portal. You can make a claim online while you are still travelling or when you return, making it convenient for both domestic travel insurance and international travel insurance customers.

Epidemics and pandemics

Always consult the Smartraveller website prior to any travel.

Travel has changed dramatically since COVID 19 became a worldwide pandemic. This product has a general exclusion, with limited exceptions, against epidemics and pandemics. That means the insurer does not cover claims that arise from, or are related to, an epidemic or pandemic.

However, HIF Travel Insurance offers cover under selected benefits if, during your period of cover, you are positively diagnosed as suffering a sickness recognised as an epidemic or pandemic, such as COVID 19. Refer to the Product Disclosure Statement to see which benefits offer cover in the event that you are positively diagnosed as suffering a sickness recognised as an epidemic or pandemic, and the terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and applicable sub-limits apply.

If a COVID 19 border closure or mandatory quarantine period prevents you from travelling or requires you to shorten your journey while travelling, you may be entitled to cancel your policy and receive a partial or full premium refund; refer to the Product Disclosure Statement for terms and conditions.

Make sure you stay up to date and comply with travel information for COVID 19 from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Smartraveller website, World Health Organisation (WHO), and Department of Home Affairs.

In addition to visas, COVID 19 testing, and proof of vaccination requirements, many countries now have compulsory insurance and medical cover proof conditions. Prior to travelling, check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of your destination.

This Domestic plan offers cover for a single trip within Australia. It is designed to cover personal liability, luggage, unexpected trip cancellation*, and more*. This Comprehensive Plan offers cover for a single overseas trip. Multi-Trip

Multi-Trip Plan

This Multi Trip Plan offers cover for multiple trips within a 12-month period. Each individual trip can be up to 15, 30 or 45 days in duration. For overseas trips, it offers all the benefits of the Comprehensive Plan; and for domestic trips, it offers all the benefits of the Domestic Plan. Plus, for an additional premium, you may be eligible to add Snow, Cruise and Adventure packs, increase item limits, and apply for pre existing medical condition cover .

Optional cover

For an additional premium, you may be eligible to add one or more of the following optional covers to Comprehensive, Multi Trip and Domestic travel insurance plans*. These are summaries only.

Snow Pack Going to the snow? You may be eligible to add a Snow Pack that is designed to cover snow sport activities including amateur skiing, snowboarding, sledding, tobogganing, or tubing. A Snow Pack covers overseas snow sport emergency assistance, loss or damage to equipment, and more*.
Cruise Pack Going sea or ocean cruising? Add a Cruise Pack, which is designed to cover medical costs on board, ship to shore evacuation, pre paid shore excursion cancellation, cabin confinement and more*.
Adventure Pack Doing adventure activities? You may be eligible to add an Adventure Pack to your plan that is designed to cover a wide range of adventure activities including riding motorcycles, mopeds and scooters, quad biking, zip lining, river tubing, animal handling, and much more*.
Increased Item Limits Cover Taking higher value items? To increase the item limit for higher value items, add Increased Item Limits Cover to your plan, so your item may be covered for a higher value, should it be stolen, lost or damaged*.

Cover Types

Depending on the plan you choose, HIF Travel Insurance will assign one of the following cover types to your plan so you can easily identify which benefit limits apply to you. Single
Covers you and your dependants named on the Certificate of Insurance who are aged under 25 years, not employed full time and will be with you for 100% of your journey.
Duo
Covers you and your travelling companion named on the Certificate of Insurance who is not a dependant and will be with you for at least 75% of your journey.
Family
Covers you, your spouse or partner, and your dependents named on the Certificate of Insurance who are aged under 25 years, not employed full time and will be with you for 100% of your journey.
