External Prosthesis and Medical appliances are external devices, appliances or aids used to help people lead a normal lifestyle, or to help prevent further injury or worsening of a health condition.

What is covered under Extras appliances?

This refers to take-home items like hearing aids, CPAP machines, artificial limbs, circulations boosters and TENS machines. If you’d like to find out if a particular appliance is claimable please call us on 1300 13 40 60 to confirm.

Which Extras covers include External Prosthesis and Medical Appliances cover?

External Prosthesis and Medical appliances are claimable under our top two categories; Super and Premium Options.

What is the waiting period for External Prosthesis and Medical Appliances?

This depends on the appliance itself, however for most External Prosthesis items, the waiting period applicable is 12 months.

For Hearing Aids a 36 month waiting period applies. After that benefit is paid on replacement hearing aids after five years from previous date of supply.

For CPAP machines a 36 month waiting period applies. You’re entitled to one monitor every five years from previous supply per person. To claim for a CPAP machine, it must be following an admission to hospital for sleep apnea or a letter of recommendation from your treating practitioner is to be provided in support of the claim.
