Who is exempt from paying the Medicare Levy Surcharge?

You may be exempt from paying the Medicare Levy Surcharge if you fit into one of the exemption categories below. These are:

Category 1

Medical conditions (blind pensioner received sickness allowance from Centrelink or were entitled to full free medical treatment for all conditions under Defence Force arrangements or Veterans' Affairs Repatriation Health Card (Gold Card)  or repatriation arrangements. 

Category 2 

Foreign residents and residents of Norfolk Island. 

Category 2 

Customers who are not entitled to Medicare benefits (regardless of income) and have obtained a Medicare entitlement statement.
