Can I claim for psychology?

A benefit for Psychological consultations can be paid if you hold HIF Super and Premium Options Extras covers. It’s important to note that a 12 month waiting period does apply for psychological consultations (unless you're transferring to HIF on an equivalent level of cover, then you won't need to re-serve any waiting periods already served with your previous fund for those services for which you were already covered).

Claimable Benefits:

Premium Options:

  • Initial visit: $100.00
  • Subsequent visit: $55.00
  • Group, couples and family therapy: $30.00 per person to a maximum of $75.00 per session.
  • Up to a maximum annual limit of $1000.00 per person per calendar year.

Super Options:

  • Initial visit: $75.00
  • Subsequent visit: $55.00
  • Group, couples and family therapy: $25.00 per person to a maximum of $75.00 per session.
  • Up to a maximum annual limit of $740.00 per person per calendar year.

Important please note:

  • A benefit is paid only if the Psychologist is a member of the Australian Psychological Society or the Association of Counselling Psychologists and is registered to practice in Australia.
  • A maximum of two treatment sessions will be paid on the same date. With a minimum of two hours between sessions.
  • A benefit is not paid on counselling sessions or psychiatrist consultations.
